Clear your gutters and downpipes
Blocked gutters overflow in heavy rain and soak your walls, leading to damp. Clear them before the worst weather arrives — ideally after the autumn leaves have dropped.
Check seals around windows and doors
Failed seals and draughts let heat out and rain in. Re-sealing and draught-proofing keeps your home warmer and your heating bills lower.
Secure fences and gates

- Repair or replace weak panels before the storms hit
- Make sure gates latch properly
Look up at the roofline
Loose or slipped tiles and lifted flashing let water in. If you can safely spot problems from the ground, get them looked at early.
